Police said eight students were evaluated by the fire department following the crash and three were taken to nearby hospitals. The bus driver was also taken to the hospital as a precaution. Everyone involved in the crash is expected to make a full recovery.
The students were from the Buckeye Learning Center.
Neighbors tell 12News they could hear the students crying minutes after the crash. Rafael Zavala and his neighbor Anthony Drummond both said crashes at this intersection happen often.
“You’d hear the tires squeal and then boom you’d hear the loud bang from the car sliding and two cars colliding into each,” Drummond said. “Like I said, it’s an everyday thing.”
Zavala said stop signs were recently put on Rainbow Road, making the intersection a four-way stop. Posted signs were seen on both streets warning about the new signage. Still, Zavala said it hasn’t made the situation any better and that more action needs to be taken to keep drivers safe.
“It’s one of those situations where I don’t want another bus getting hit and God forbid it’s fatal,” Zavala said.
At this time police have not said who is at fault or what led to the crash.
This is a developing story; additional details will be added as they become available.
