The condition, which affects the immune system, led her to make the difficult decision to step back from touring alongside her husband and the band.\n<p>\u201cThis impacts my immune system, so I have to be mindful of what I do and where I go,\u201d Scialfa shared. \u201cOccasionally, I\u2019ll join a show or two and sing a few songs on stage\u2014that\u2019s been a real treat. It\u2019s my new normal, and I\u2019m OK with that.\u201d\n</p><p>In an earlier interview with\u00a0<em>Asbury Park Press,\u00a0Scialfa explained her decision to limit her appearances during Springsteen\u2019s current tour, which began in February 2023. She chose instead to focus on her solo album and spend more time with her granddaughter, Lily Springsteen, who was born in July 2022. Reflecting on her role in the band, Scialfa remarked, \u201cWith so many musicians on stage, I didn\u2019t feel as needed. After a few shows, I realized everything was running smoothly, and I could step back without taking anything away.\u201d\n<p>She also used this time to complete her record, a project she found challenging to finish when Springsteen was home. \u201cBruce is in the studio all the time, so this was an opportunity for me to focus on my work,\u201d she added.\n</p><p>Health struggles have also impacted Springsteen himself. In September 2023, he postponed the remainder of his tour due to ongoing treatment for peptic ulcer disease.
