At around 7.45am on September 10, two fishermen reported a dead body in the Little Tennessee River, adjacent to the Macon County Greenway, in North Carolina,\u00a0US.\n

The body was later determined to be female and was pulled from the water.\n

Now, the fisherman\u2019s harrowing find and his subsequent calls for help have gone viral in a video posted on\u00a0social media.\u00a0Warning \u2013 Distressing footage:\n

The footage shows the man, Mark Wilkins, coasting the lake and saying his \u2018buddy\u2019 off camera that he suspects he\u2019s seen a \u2018human being\u2019 in the water.\n\n\n
He then realizes what he\u2019s seen and could be heard repeating: \u2018Oh my god, a dead body\u2019, before making the call to the\u00a0police.\n
On the phone to the 911 operator, he explains the pair had headed off the boat ramp and were going down towards the water station discharge and the dam when he spotted a \u2018hand\u2019 sticking up, and what he described as a decomposing body.\n
When asked if he was still in the water, he replied: \u2018Yeah, I\u2019m sitting here looking at it\u2019, though he wasn\u2019t sure if it was a\u00a0Halloween\u00a0prop or a prank. However, Mark\u2019s fishing \u2018buddy\u2019, John, also said he thought it looked \u2018like a person\u2019 and \u2018a girl\u2019.\n
Mark then said a prayer: \u201cDear lord, please rest that person\u2019s soul.\u201d\n

The fisherman said their day had \u2018started normal\u2019 but became suspicious of something in the water after noticing a \u2018weird oil slick\u2019.\n
The man explained he later uploaded the footage to\u00a0YouTube\u00a0for \u2018educational purposes\u2019 and sent his prayers to the family of the deceased woman.\n
The Franklin Police Department said an investigation was launched in September and is still in the preliminary stages,\u00a0Fox Carolina\u00a0reported. Officials have said they don\u2019t know the woman\u2019s name, cause of death or any other details.\n
The force has been contacted for an update on the situation.\n
